A result against Arsenal would boost Liverpool's Champions League hopes

You will have likely heard this sort of nonsense before any game of this magnitude. Newspapers and Television Broadcasters are quick to convey a desperate need for a result.

But is there more to it this time? Arsenal lay just three points clear from ourselves and have qualified for the Champions League in every one of their last 15 seasons. A defeat would double our deficit while a win would put us level on points.

It’s a six pointer if there ever has been one. If we don’t jump this hurdle now, will we ever face it again? For the first time all season we are involved in a game which can genuinely be regarded as a challenge for top four.

Wenger and his men will be left in no disillusion to the severity of this match up and the havoc it may cause on their own Champions League qualification hopes. Spurs who currently lie in the coveted final Champions League spot face a bruised and battered Norwich City, who look far from capable of beating anyone.

If the seven-point gap that separates us from fourth was to slip, it may wreak inconceivable damage on the visible signs of belief beaming on the faces of Gerrard and co. Chelsea have been inconsistent of late, reminiscent of Benitez’s Liverpool. Yet whether or not they can prevail at the Madjeski Stadium bares little on our situation.

Thoughts of overtaking Chelsea would be far too premature. After all, it’s not third we’re preying on but fourth. We have to be realistic and focus on our current competition. With Everton and West Brom facing off there is reason for optimism.

At least one of our challengers is guaranteed to be dropping points. The Emirates however is the true field of battle. If we fail to take a point, our decent league form and the enthusiasm erected with it could all be lost. Then again, come Thursday morning we could be four points off fourth.

  1. We need a new manager not the chancer we have now and maybe then we can start being a big club again.

    1. Chancer? If not Rodgers than who? And what should they be doing differently?

    2. I would pick a team that contains a midfield and if it went wrong I would not do a Scooby Doo and blame the pesky kids, the season is littered with Brendans mistakes and if you can not see it change sports.
