Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers stated he was unhappy with the performances of some of the Reds younger players in Sunday's FA Cup defeat to Oldham Athletic.
The Reds boss gave starts to a number of young players normally on the fringes of the squad, such as Sebastian Coates and Jack Robinson, but Liverpool's starlets could not step up to the challenge and were beaten 3-2 by their League One opposition.
Latics forward Matt Smith opened the scoring for the hosts before Luis Suarez brought the visitors level but Smith scored again before half-time, with Reece Wabara adding another the other side of the break to ensure Joe Allen's effort ten minutes from time was a mere consolation.
"I was bitterly disappointed with the young players as they had a chance to compete for a club that has to challenge for trophies." Rodgers stated in a post-match press conference at Boundary Park.
"We lost our concentration and only had spells in the last 35 minutes when we were at the right level.
"The intensity of our game was nowhere near where it should be at the beginning. We gave the ball away too easily and were not strong enough physically.

Rodgers went on to admit he felt the FA Cup was a competition the Anfield side cold "really have a go at" and has been left frustrated that the Reds only chance of silverware this season is now the Europa League, in which they play Zenit St. Petersburg in mid-February.
