As soon as the final whistle was blown at Anfield on Saturday, along with the euphoria came the realisation. Liverpool have finally arrived.
After a five year absence it seems more likely than not that Liverpool will once again have the famous Champions League anthem reverberating around L4 next season. This class of 14' does just have masses of ability, the potential is there for all to see. For both the Everton and Arsenal hammerings, Liverpool fielded the same XI.
That XI cost an approximate total of £75 million. £75 million, approximately same amount Manchester United spent on Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata.
Three Academy products featured prominently, one loanee, and a free agent alongside 6 cash transferred players made Liverpool into an intimidating outfit.
You look at some of the transfer fees, Liverpool will be angered if a bid they received for Luis Suarez wasn't four times what they paid for him in 2011 (£22.8 million). Daniel Sturridge cost £12 million, a gamble according to the 'all knowing presence' that is Sir Alex Ferguson. With 29 goals in 36 games he's more than paid of his fee and at the age of 24 hasn't even reached his prime, which is a scary thought!
Raheem Sterling has been a revelation and could arguably be England's best winger, at 19 that's some achievement, he too is destined for greatness and he's under the right manager to achieve that. Phillipe Coutinho has often blown hot and cold but since the Everton game he's been more like the sunny sands of Spain rather than the unwelcoming nature of the Antarctica. Costing £8.5 million and at 21 years of age, he's another with the world at his feet.
Jordan Henderson came under much scrutiny during his first year and half in the famous red shirt but ever since he's been a leading contender to start in England's midfield in Rio, he still can improve too and will no doubt pay off his transfer fee. John Flanagan has been exceptional since his return to the first team and if he continues in this vein he can start purchasing his flip flops and factor 50.
The most encouraging thing for Liverpool fans at the moment is this crop of players doesn't just have high levels of ability, the potential is staggering and with the side already challenging in the upper echelon of the Premiership, the future certainly looks bright for the Class of 2014,
