With Liverpool set to travel to Craven Cottage tonight to face struggling Fulham, our writer Josh Bradley takes a look at where's best to be placing your money.
Liverpool travel to Craven Cottage in a buoyant mood, following the 5-1 drubbing of Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, and will be looking to cement their place in the Champions League positions.
Fulham surprised many by claiming a point late on at Old Trafford on Sunday, and know they need to take as many points as possible whilst they are sitting at the foot of the table.
With such contrasting fortunes, the odds are all pointing in Liverpool’s favour; however there is still plenty of value about if you look closely.
Liverpool have really shot out of the blocks early on this season, scoring a large majority of their goals in the first half, so the half-time score betting may be of interest. The lowest price of the bunch is 3/1 (0-0), so if you feel confident enough to stick your neck out, there will be a decent pay-out if you can call it.
With Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling linking up so well as a front-three, you would have to expect Liverpool to net at least once in the first-half, and with Fulham offering so little threat going forward, it may well pay to side with a-to-nil score-line.
The score-line was 3-0 in Liverpool’s favour at half-time when the sides met earlier this season at Anfield, however it will be a different proposition at Craven Cottage, and for this reason the 2-0 score-line appeals at 6/1 with various firms.
In terms of scorers, there will be very few looking past the elite trio of Suarez, Sturridge and the in-form Sterling. However it’s Philipe Coutinho at 10/1 with Paddy Power that really appeals, with the Brazilian magician likely to be given the space he needs to work in. His dribbling skills are second to none, and with tight marking expected on the front-three in particular, Coutinho’s mazy runs from deep may be the key to unlocking the defence. He has come very close in recent weeks, and to coin the phrase, he is ‘due a goal’.
There is a clear disparity between bookmakers, with the majority of the firms offering 7/1, however if you bet with Paddy, 10/1 seems a fair price, and the 4/1 for Coutinho to net in a Liverpool win at Ladbrokes is another solid bet.
The final selection carries on from the ‘strong start’ routine that Liverpool have adopted this season. The Reds have scored 63 goals already in the league, but have only managed to net more than once in the second half, on four occasions (Spurs, Stoke, West Ham and Norwich). This leads us to believe that the first 45 minutes is set to be the highest scoring half of the game, and at 11/5 with William Hill, this looks set to be a valuable long-term bet.
Selections:
Liverpool to be leading 2-0 at HT @ 6/1 (Various)
Coutinho to score first @ 10/1 (Paddy Power)
Coutinho to score in a Liverpool win @ 4/1 (Ladbrokes)
First Half to be the highest scoring @ 11/5 (William Hill)
